Build A Future Scholarship Winners

2010

Leilani Romo, DePaul University

In 2010, the third Build A Future Scholarship was awarded to Leilani Romo, a rising junior at DePaul University in Chicago, IL, was selected for the CWA scholarship for her outstanding skills, aptitude, and motivation in the fields of journalism, communications, and public relations. Her major is Public Relations with a minor in Art History and holds a 3.9 GPA. Her expected year of graduation is 2012.

2009

Andres Boral, Florida Gulf Coast University

In 2009, the second Build A Future Scholarship was awarded to Andres Boral, a student at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Meyers, Florida. He is a student majoring in civil engineering with an interest in construction and writing. He has a 3.89 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and is on the President's List and the Dean's List.  Andres is the representative for the National Assn. of Home Builders, the FGCU Florida Engineering Society and the American Public Works Association.  Also, he is vice president of Future Builders of America and a member of the Collier Building Industry Association, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

2008

Katie Bascom Davis, Florida Institute of Technology

The first Build Your Future scholarship was awarded to Katie Bascom Davis, a graduate student in Civil Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology. In addition to earning a Masters degree in Engineering, Davis is considering pursuing opportunities in construction journalism, marketing or public relations.

Davis was nominated for the scholarship by Professor Ralph Locurcio, a retired General in the Army Corps of Engineers and currently a professor at Florida Tech. “Katie is an extremely dedicated and serious student. My classes require students to develop and present original work in the form of oral and written presentation and Katie’s are extremely creative and interesting. Her oral and written expression is excellent,” said Locurcio.
