October 25-26, 2010 The 2010 CWA Annual Conference-Embracing the New Normal will be held at the Hilton Suites Chicago-Magnificent Mile. We are presenting multiple sessions on the building and construction industry, the economy, and the latest in technology that is impacting how we do business today.

CWA's eight major award programs will be combined into one huge event and the winners will be presented their awards at the 2010 Grand Awards Dinner on October 26, 2010. We are currently accepting entries for the Marketing Communications Awards, Website and Electronic Communications Awards, Silver Hard Hat Awards, and the Hall of Fame. Please check the specific awards for more information.

Construction Tour - New Children’s Memorial Hospital

On Monday afternoon, October 25th, a construction tour will be conducted of the new Children’s Memorial Hospital. This is one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country, leads in patient care, education, research, and advocacy. The construction tour will be led by Bob Gallo, Mortenson/Power. The new hospital is a replacement hospital for the current Children’s Memorial Hospital which is located about three miles from the new site.

Conference tour attendees will assemble in the hotel lobby at 3:00PM and walk to the construction site which is few blocks away from the Hilton Suites-Magnificent Mile. Loose-fitting clothing and closed-toes shoes are recommended to participate in the tour. Personal protective equipment will be provided to participants of the tour.

The fun does not end here! On Tuesday afternoon, October 26th, the construction project team will present a detailed presentation of this $1billion construction hospital project during the Top Construction Projects session at the conference. The new hospital is a 1.25-million square foot, 23-story teaching hospital scheduled to open in 2012.

During this session, you will learn more about how the designers and builders solved the owner’s digital challenge and why the healthcare owner desired a tall urban structure in the Streeterville neighborhood and part of Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s campus.

Conference Tour Tickets

If you are a CWA member, the construction tour is FREE and open to all CWA members in good standing at no charge. You do not need to be attending the conference to attend the construction tour. Preregistration is recommended.

All non-members are welcome. If you are not a CWA member, there are three ways to attend the construction tour:

  1. Register for the construction tour and the welcome networking reception only.
  2. Register for the conference, then the construction tour is included as part of the full conference package.
  3. Join CWA and the tour is free.

CWA members can attend the construction tour and welcome reception for free. Individual membership is $100. There is no initiation fee. The welcome reception in the evening following the construction tour is free to all CWA members regardless if you are attending the conference; however, registration is recommended.
