    Fall Midyear Conference
    Smart Move-Gaining An Edge

2008 Fall Midyear Conference
Oct. 15-17, 2008 Chicago

Smart Move-Gaining An Edge

Tour a smart home and elevate your professional IQ by attending the Construction Writers Association (CWA) Fall Midyear Conference titled Smart Move-Gaining An Edge.

The conference will be held on October 15-17, 2008 at the Hotel Allegro in Chicago, Illinois. The two-day conference includes green building issues, electronic communication, integrated project delivery, and the Smart Building tour at the Museum of Science and Industry. The Marketing Communications Awards and the Website and Electronic Communications Awards will be presented to the winners at the Awards Dinner.

Our speakers and topics include: David Dwyer, American Renewable Energy, is leading a panel on "Green Construction Today," which will include George Tuhowksi III, Leopardo Construction, who will discuss the Greenbuild 2007 Legacy Project and William(Tim) McConnell, Portland Cement Association, who will discuss full-depth reclamation for road building. On the electronic communications front, Adam Terese, web editor of Scranton Gillette Communications, is presenting on how to create effective video for the web and Shannon Darmody, Reed Building and Construction Group, will show the value of measuring click-throughs during her presentation titled "Benchmark Your Effectiveness?

A tour of the current exhibit The Smart Home at the Museum of Science and Industry aligns with the green construction emphasis of the conference. The Smart Home is the "greenest home in Chicago"- both inside and out. This is a three-story modular and sustainable "green" home on the Museum's campus. Learn about the advantages of a modular home; and explore sustainable landscaping and a rooftop garden. There is no extra charge for the tour with many of the conference packages; however, there is a limited capacity.

The CWA Awards Dinner, on Thursday evening, features the CWA Marketing Communication Awards; and the Website and Electronic Communications Awards. There are seven categories offering several opportunities to be recognized by your peers. The deadline for entries is Friday, August 15, 2008. The CWA Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday afternoon at the Hotel Allegro. Members are welcome.

A special thank you to our conference sponsors Caterpillar, Inc., Walter P Moore, and Roads and Bridges Magazine for their support. It is due to their generosity that CWA is able to offer quality programs to you.
