Manager, External Relations

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a large and nationally recognized association, seeks a manager with outstanding writing, editing and verbal communication skills to manage and implement media relations activities in an active external relations department. Position reports to senior manager, external relations.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Increasing awareness of the profession and the association’s programs through: managing media outreach projects;
  • Developing media outreach materials, including advisories, news releases and letters to the editor;
  • Maintaining media contacts database and
  • Developing distribution lists; fielding media inquires; and managing special projects as needed.

Requirements for the position are: BA in communications, public relations, journalism or related field; 3 – 5 years of experience with demonstrated success in media relations; and strong organizational skills. Knowledge of media relations software a plus. ASCE offers competitive salaries, a convenient location and a comprehensive benefits package.

Internal Communications Engineering Editor

A leading international engineering firm in New York City that is responsible for engineering the world’s tallest buildings seeks a skilled and fluid writer, an internal communications engineering editor, capable of turning on a dime, to lead development of its weekly intranet news site. Ability to get the story right, to go deep, move fast and win respect from tough-minded engineers. Proven nose for technical news, and reporting capabilities. At ease in an entrepreneurial technical service culture and a matrixed management environment where lines of authority are fluid. Comfort with a fast-paced weekly news cycle in an online and multimedia environment. Adept at scheduling and juggling multiple demands.

Responsibilities include:

 · Working with Web manager and head of communications to      
     produce and prioritize a 
steady stream of content for our intranet
     weekly news site.

· Identifying stories and case studies, reporting, conducting photo or 
    image research, and obtaining reviews.

· With minimal supervision to provide one feature and three news 
    stories per week, and

· Oversee production of supporting content.

A qualified candidate will have 5+ years in journalism or relevant A/E trade publication or corporate communications roles that center on print and online story development. Demonstrated understanding of a professional services firm culture and market drivers, preferably with an engineering or architecture background. Presence and poise to work with senior executives. Proven ability to negotiate and influence to develop and achieve common objectives. Proven ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely. Graduate degree in journalism or technical field desirable.

Public Relations Account Executive

Two Rivers Marketing has an immediate opening for a public relations account executive to manage national business-to-business accounts

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and managing strategic public relations plans
• Managing trade media relations with industry publications
• Coordinating and managing freelance photographers
• Writing news releases and feature stories for trade magazines
• Managing public relations and web content and
• Assisting with advertising and other promotional copywriting as
   needed.

Qualified candidates will have a degree in journalism and mass communications, with an emphasis in public relations or a related field. Five years of experience in public relations, magazines or newspapers, or related marketing activities is required. High technical aptitude or technical writing experience a plus.
