Ward R. Malisch Honored by Construction Writers Association

May, 2006

(Buffalo Grove, IL) The Construction Writers Association has presented its highest honor, the Silver Hard Hat Award, to Ward R. Malisch, senior managing director for American Concrete Institute, Farmington Hills, MI.

The award, which recognizes outstanding service to the construction industry, was presented at CWA's recent annual meeting and awards dinner in Washington, DC.

Ward earned a B.S., M.S., and PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois, and is a registered professional engineer. He began his career as a civil engineering educator at three universities. He left teaching to join The Aberdeen Group (now Hanley-Wood) where he helped develop the highly regarded seminar program at the World of Concrete and became editor of Concrete Construction magazine. He served in this position from 1983 to 1992 and again from 1996 through 2000. He joined the American Concrete Institute staff in 2001 and now leads the engineering, education, and marketing departments and is publisher of ACI's magazine, Concrete International.

Concrete construction is one of Malisch's greatest interests. He serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Concrete Contractors, is chair of their education and training committee, and has answered ASCC's Troubleshooting Hotline for 20 years. He has assisted in producing 26 ASCC Position Statements that offer solutions for problems commonly faced by concrete contractors. With ASCC he has also helped to organize two national inter-industry working group meetings on concrete floor issues and on reducing the cost of tolerance compatibility problems.

Construction Writers Association is a non-profit, non-partisan, international organization for journalists, publicists, photographers, and marketing communications professionals serving the information needs of the construction industry. By providing opportunities for networking, education, recognition, and fellowship, CWA helps foster a strong community-and improve the quality of construction writing.
