CONSTRUCTION WRITERS ASSOCIATION PRESENTS 2005 WEBSITE AWARDS IN CHICAGO
November, 2005
The Construction Writers Association recently presented its eighth annual Website Awards at the organization's midyear meeting in Chicago. Entries from construction-related individuals, companies, associations, advertising agencies, public relations firms and publications were judged on the basis of meeting stated objectives, home page attention grab, interactivity, reason to return to site, effective use of technology, ease of downloading, graphic style, informational content, ease of navigation and overall impression.
Award winners were:
- www.InfrastructureReportCard.org , submitted by Jill Dixon of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The 2005 Report Card for America's Infrastructure was a campaign to educate policy leaders and the public on the precarious condition of U.S. roads, bridges, water quality and public facilities. This interactive and information-rich website was pivotal in reaching the press and public officials. Within 24 hours of the webcast release of the Report Card, ASCE reports that 1.5 million people visited this award-winning site.
- Receiving "Special Recognition for Website Creativity" was www.LifeatBSA.com , submitted by Holly Bolton of the A/E firm BSA LifeStructures. This website anchored a vigorous recruitment campaign to attract top talent to the company. BSA LifeStructures needed to reach a more geographic- and culturally-diverse pool of young graduates, and in doing so provided a snapshot of what everyday life was like in the Chicago and Indianapolis offices of this high-energy company.
- Receiving "Special Recognition for Website Interactivity" was www.QuietPavement.com , submitted by Margaret Cervarich representing the Asphalt Pavement Alliance. This highly interactive website was created to educate audiences about road noise pollution from roads and highways, and to illustrate new "quiet pavement" technologies. Visitors to the site are invited to play the game Sound Town USA, where they may create a virtual neighborhood and explore noise mitigation strategies in an entertaining way.
The 2005 CWA Website Awards were judged by Mark Guarino, Craig Park, Amy Bowen, Stephen Edelstein and Judy Schriener; Mike Reilly chaired the Website Awards Committee.
