Construction Writers Association Elects 2005-2006 Officers and Directors

(Buffalo Grove, IL) Members of the Construction Writers Association have a new board of directors headed by its new president, Jennifer G. Prokopy, principal of Orange Grove Media, Chicago, IL. Prokopy has previously served the association as a director, vice president, chair of the association's journalism awards program, and chair of CWA's annual World of Concrete reception.

Dennis Day, a CWA past president, Alexandria, VA, served as nominating committee chair. The slate was presented during CWA's Annual Meeting, held this spring in Washington, DC.

Additional officers elected by CWA members are 1st vice president Sharon Holling, marketing administrator for the trade press with Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL and 2nd vice president Michael Anderson, editor, Equipment Journal, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Holling has been a director, chair of the association's journalism awards program and chair of a CWA event at the 2004 BAUMA show in Munich, Germany. Anderson has served as director, chair of the international membership committee, and chair of the CWA marketing communications awards program.

Five directors were elected to two-year terms: Tracie Christie, associate director of awards & marketing, National Asphalt Pavement Assn., Lanham, MD; Susan Garritano, public relations manager, McCarthy Building Companies Inc., St. Louis, MO; Sarah Montezon, director of business development, PSA - Dewberry, Inc., Fairfax, VA; Greg Sitek, national editor, Reed Associated Construction Publications, Tuscaloosa, AL; and Bill Wilson, managing editor, Roads and Bridges, Des Plaines, IL. Jane Howell, director of communications, American Society of Civil Engineers, Reston, VA, was elected to a one-year term. Christie, Garratano, and Howell had been serving as CWA directors.

Continuing on the CWA Board of Directors are past president Don Marsh, editor of Concrete Products, Chicago, IL; executive director Sheila Wertz, principal of Berkshire Consulting Group, Buffalo Grove, IL; and four directors: Brenda Aschliman, director of corporate communications for Walter P. Moore, Houston, TX; Tony Illia, a freelance writer and correspondent for ENR, Las Vegas, NV; Judy Schriener, editor-in-chief of McGraw-Hill's website Construction.com, New York, NY; and Rick Yelton, editor-in-chief of Concrete Producer and Masonry Construction magazines, Addison, IL.

CWA members also thanked those completing their service on the board - past president Jack Roberts, senior editor of Equipment World, Tuscaloosa, AL; Christina Fisher, editor of Construction magazine, Charlotte, NC; and Ed Rehfeld, communications manager for the Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust, Washington, DC.
