CWA MEMBERS ELECT 2003-4 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

(Buffalo Grove, IL) -- Construction Writers Association members attending the CWA Annual Meeting, May 2, 2003, in Washington DC, elected Jack Roberts, senior editor of Equipment World magazine, as 2003-4 president. Roberts, previously a director and 1st vice president of CWA, is senior editor for Equipment World, published by Randall Publishing Co. in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Don Marsh, editor of Concrete Products magazine (Primedia, Chicago) and previously 2nd vice president of CWA, was elected 1st vice president. Jenni G. Prokopy, principal of Orange Grove Media, Chicago, and formerly with Portland Cement Association, previously a director of CWA, was elected 2nd vice president.
Five people were elected to two-year terms as directors: Michael Anderson, editor of Equipment Journal, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, who likely is the first international member to serve on the CWA board. Susan Garritano, public relations manager for McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., St. Louis, MO, Ed Rehfeld, communications manager for LECET, the Laborers-Employers Cooperative Education Trust, Washington, DC., and Norida Torriente, senior manager of external relations for the American Society of Civil Engineers, Washington DC, each of whom are recent CWA Marketing Communications Award winners. Tracie Christie, associate director of awards and marketing for the National Asphalt Pavement Association, Lanham, MD, who has been co-chair of the CWA Journalism Awards.
Judy Schriener, editor in chief of McGraw-Hill's Construction.com, New York, NY, was elected to a one-year term as a CWA director. She has previously won a CWA Website Award. The slate was presented by nominating committee chair Gordon Wright, executive editor of Building Design & Construction, Oak Brook, IL, who is a past president.
Directors continuing their service on the board include Chris Fisher, editor of Construction magazine, Charlotte, NC; Sharon Holling, marketing administrator for trade public relations at Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL; Kirk Landers, editorial director of Better Roads, Des Plaines, IL; Mike Reilly, principal of Reilly Communications. South Boston, MA.
2002-3 CWA president Dennis Day, senior director of public affairs for Associated General Contractors of America, Alexandria, VA, will continue on the board as immediate past president. Sheila Wertz, principal of Berkshire Consulting Group, Buffalo Grove, IL, will continue as CWA executive director.
2001-2 CWA president Janice Tuchman, editor in chief of Engineering News Record, New York, NY, has completed her service on the CWA board. However, she will continue to serve as CWA's representative to the NCCER Industry Image Task Force, and she will chair the new CWA past president's council, which will be responsible for designing CWA's new scholarship program.
The CWA board is bidding farewell to five directors: Dan Brown, principal of TechniComm, Des Plaines, IL; Alison Carney, marketing manager for Centex Construction Company, Fairfax, VA, and 2003 Annual Meeting Chair; Jason Grant, formerly of Surety Information Office, Washington, DC, who has left the industry; Jay Lyon, principal of Lyon Communications, Chicago, IL; and Matt Power, Cumberland, ME, senior editor of Builder magazine and a presenter in CWA's "fundamentals of construction journalism" course. "We hope the four remaining in the industry will continue to be active with CWA," said Wright.
