Marketing Communications Awards Presented at CWA Midyear Meeting

It's very difficult to predict the first year response for a new awards program, and marketing communications awards chairman David Wood was delighted with 44 entries. "The quality of what we received was outstanding," Wood said, and so he authorized the judges to subdivide the categories to facilitate judging and allow them to compare entries on an apples-to-apples basis.

The public relations category was broken into two - press/media kit and PR campaign; the corporate communications category was subdivided into five - brochure, annual report, internal newsletter, direct mail, and multi-media; and advertising was divided into three subcategories - advertising campaign, print advertising, and advertising supplement.

The winner in the public relations press/media kit category is Engineering News-Record for the ENR Media Kit. Honorable mention in this category goes to Two Rivers Marketing Group for the Ingersoll-Rand Press Kit.

The public relations campaign category winner is the American Society of Civil Engineers' "Building Big" campaign. Honorable mentions in this category included Associated Builders and Contractors for its Woodrow Wilson Bridge campaign and ASCE for its 2001 Report Card for America's Infrastructure.

The winner in the corporate brochure category is NBBJ for its World Architecture Review. Honorable mention in the category goes to Fuessler Group for its Greenhorne & O'Mara corporate brochure.

In the annual report category, the winner is Associated General Contractors of America for its annual report. Honorable mention goes to LECET (Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust) for its annual report.

In the internal newsletter category, the winner is Two Rivers Marketing Group for Vermeer Manufacturing Company's employee newsletter.

In the direct mail category, the winner is McCarthy Building Companies Inc. for its client newsletter. Honorable mention goes to Centex Construction Co. for its direct mail campaign.

In the multi-media category, the winner is AECOM Corporate Public Relations/DJJM+Harris for The ADOT GC Program.

In the advertising categories, AGC of America wins the advertising campaign award for AGC Environmental Solutions. In the print ads category, Two Rivers Marketing Group wins for Vermeer Manufacturing Company's ads. In the advertising supplement category, an honorable mention goes to Engineering News-Record for "Transportation Today."

The judges included Lorraine Cline, president of Cline Design, Salisbury, NH; David Denelle, editor-in-chief of New England Real Estate Journal; and James Mitchell, director of corporate development for Richard White Sons, a construction management firm in Auburndale, MA. Space for judging was provided by Charlie Hall, president of J. Lawrence Hall Co., a mechanical contractor in Nashua, NH. "I thank them all," Wood said.
