Entries Due August 15 for First Annual CWA Marketing Communications Awards

July, 2001

This year, the Construction Writers Association (CWA) is expanding its recognition programs to include outstanding marketing efforts of design and construction firms, industry publications and those who provide products and services to the construction industry by establishing the Construction Writers Association Marketing Communications Awards.

The competition is open to any construction industry-related individual, corporation, association or publication submitting a completed entry form accompanied by a $100 entry fee. Entries will be divided for judging into three classifications: advertising (includes single ads, campaigns, advertorial supplements), corporate communications (includes annual reports, brochures, internal newsletters, video-multimedia, direct mail, corporate identity, trade show exhibits, proposals/presentations), and public relations (includes PR campaigns, media kits, special events).

Entries will be judged on graphic design, editorial content, and effectiveness in achieving the stated marketing and communications goals. The judges chosen have acknowledged expertise in marketing communications and were screened to assure they have no conflict of interest.

Entries must be received no later than August 15, 2001, by David Wood, CWA Marketing Communications Awards Chair.

CWA has a long history of honoring journalistic achievement. It has established three journalism awards: the Robert F. Boger awards for editorial excellence in 1971, the T. Randolph Russell Award for newsletter excellence in 1993, and the Ned Godfrey Award for body of work in 1999. In addition, the association established in 1998 a website award program to acknowledge this latest form of journalistic enterprise. These awards are presented each spring, at the CWA annual meeting in Washington DC.

"The marketing communications award program continues this tradition by recognizing an important aspect of construction writers' efforts - communications, including advertising, corporate communications, and public relations," says Wood, who is a past president of CWA and former chair of the association's marketing communications task force. The marketing communications awards will be presented at CWA's midyear meeting, to be held October 5 in Chicago, IL.

Construction Writers Association is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, international organization for professional journalists, writers, editors and publicists serving the information needs of the construction industry. The group strives to provide educational benefits, the opportunity to network, enhanced professionalism in construction journalism, and information resources to its members. CWA's website, www.constructionwriters.org , provides information and links to many construction-related sites to its members and the public.
