CWA Announces First Annual Marketing Communications Awards
This year, CWA seeks to expand its recognition to the outstanding marketing efforts of design and construction firms, industry prblications and those who provide products and services to the construction industry by establishing the Construction Writers Association Marketing Communications Awards.
The Construction Writers Association (CWA) has a long history of honoring journalistic achievement. In 1971, the association established the Robert F. Boger Awards for editorial excellence and achievement in construction journalism in honor of the late publisher of Engineering News-Record and Construction Methods & Equipment, the primary force behind CWA's founding. In 1993, the T. Randolph Russell Award for newsletters was established. This award is named for T. Randolph "Randy" Russell, who worked for the American Road & Transportation Builders Association from 1958 until his death in 1985. As vice president of public affairs and newsletter editor for the group, Russell published a weekly newsletter.
With the emergence of the Internet and its accompanying technology, in 1998 CWA began acknowledging this latest form of journalistic enterprise with its annual Website Awards.
Most recently, in 1999, the association established the Ned Godfrey Award for Body of Work. The award honors Kneeland "Ned" Godfrey, a past president of CWA, who served in top editorial posts with Civil Engineering and the Institute of Management and Administration and who authored Partnering in Design and Construction for McGraw-Hill prior to his death in 1997. The award is intended to honor journalistic and writing ability, demonstrated through a large sample of writing from the preceding year.
The marketing communications award program continues this tradition by recognizing an important aspect of construction writers' efforts - communications, including advertising, corporate communications, and public relations.
