Construction Writers Association Establishes Hall of Fame
(Buffalo Grove, IL) The Construction Writer’s Association (CWA) will officially turn 50 at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C., April 30-May 1, and will roll out the red carpet by honoring the inaugural class of its Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame was created to honor those who have made significant contributions to the construction industry and CWA during the course of their career. Highlighting the first class will be the association’s founding fathers—Robert Boger; Duane Cronk; Arthur A. Faber, James T. Jenkins, Jr.; E.E. “Gene” Halmos; Henry T. Perez; William H. Quirk; John Rehfeld; Dr. George E. Symons; and Edward Weilepp. CWA also will be inducting two current members, Greg Sitek and Gordon Wright.
Sitek is the editorial director of Associated Construction Publications. His career includes stints as editorial director of Equipment Today and Rental Product News magazines, and as editor of Equipment Management magazine.
Sitek was president of CWA in the early 1980s, and was instrumental in turning it into an independent and thriving association. He also has won two of CWA’s most prestigious editorial awards—the Robert F. Boger Award and the T. Randolph Russell Award for Newsletters — and also the association’s highest honor, the Silver Hard Hat Award.
Wright recently retired after contributing 32 brilliant years to Reed Business’ Building Design & Construction magazine. He won CWA’s Silver Hard Hat Award in 2003, and a year later was a Robert F. Boger Award winner. Wright’s involvement with CWA was especially significant, serving as director; vice president; president; past president; nominating committee chair; midyear meeting committee chairman; and meeting photographer. The association’s photography awards have been named the Gordon B. Wright Photography Awards.
“CWA was certainly lucky to have these individuals make such large and impressive footprints within the organization,” said Bill Wilson, 50th Anniversary Committee Chairman and editorial director, Scranton Gillette Communications. “The Hall of Fame is the best way we can honor them.”
The Construction Writers Association was founded in 1958 and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2008. CWA is a non-profit, non-partisan, international organization for professional journalists, writers, editors, photographers, marketers and publicists serving the information needs of the construction industry. In addition to its journalism, photography, marketing communications and website/electronic communications awards programs, CWA provides educational meetings and networking opportunities for its members.
