Construction Writers Association Awards First Build Your Future Scholarship

(Chicago, IL)—The Construction Writers Association (CWA) recently awarded its first Build Your Future scholarship to Katie Bascom Davis, a graduate student in Civil Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology. In addition to earning a Masters degree in Engineering, Davis is considering pursuing opportunities in construction journalism, marketing or public relations.

The $2,000 scholarship was presented to her in person at Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fla., by Judy Schriener, chair of the Scholarship Committee, and she was congratulated and introduced to the group by CWA president Mike Anderson at the association's annual meeting in Alexandria, Virginia.

Davis was nominated for the scholarship by Professor Ralph Locurcio, a retired General in the Army Corps of Engineers and currently a professor at Florida Tech. “Katie is an extremely dedicated and serious student. My classes require students to develop and present original work in the form of oral and written presentation and Katie’s are extremely creative and interesting. Her oral and written expression is excellent,” said Locurcio.

Construction Writers Association is a non-profit, non-partisan, international organization for journalists, publicists, photographers, and marketing communications professionals serving the information needs of the construction industry. By providing opportunities for networking, education, recognition, and fellowship, CWA helps foster a strong community and improve the quality of construction writing.
