CWA’s ANNUAL CONFERENCE OFFERS A PACKED PROGRAM ON LINKING MEDIA AND PEOPLE

Chicago, IL -The Construction Writers Association’s Annual Conference, to be held on May 4-6, 2009 at the Hotel Monaco in Alexandria, VA, will feature seven lively, educational presentations, two construction tours, plus the Grand Awards Dinner, all tied together under the heading “Building Connections-Linking Media and People.”
The opening session, “Building Connections with Social Media,” features keynote speaker Denise Graveline, president of don’t get caught. She will discuss the latest communications strategies, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. At lunch, the Social Media Workshop, with Amanda Kolson Hurley, senior editor of Architect magazine, Alison Rice, senior editor of BUILDER Online, and Geoff Livingston, author of Now Is Gone: A Primer on New Media for Executives and Entrepreneurs, continues the discussion of building connections and emphasizes today’s fascination with social media.
An Editors Roundtable, an interactive session with more than a dozen editors of major industry publications such as Better Roads, Building Design and Construction, Concrete Products, Construction Equipment, Contractor Tools and Supplies, Daily Commercial News, ENR, Equipment World, and Roads and Bridges magazine, will discuss hot topics at multiple roundtables and provide optimal networking.
Other sessions include ethics, the reauthorization of SAFETEA-LU, and top global construction projects such as the Libya Housing and Infrastructure Program, the Great American Tower in Cincinnati, the expansion of Miami International Airport and the Saudi Arabian Railway.
The conference opens with a twilight tour of the Pentagon Memorial and there is an afternoon tour on the following day to the United States Institute of Peace’s new permanent headquarters, currently under construction in Washington DC. Transportation is provided for the tours for registered conference attendees. Limited seats are available.
The Grand Awards Dinner includes the journalism and photography awards, the Silver Hard Hat award and new inductees to the CWA Hall of Fame.
